WordPress needs PHP and a MySQL-compatible database. Most shared hosts support it; managed WordPress hosts add tuning and updates.
Step 1: Choose WordPress-capable hosting
Check the plan lists current PHP versions, database access and enough storage. Managed WordPress plans cost more but reduce maintenance.
Step 2: Install WordPress
Use the one-click installer in the control panel, or install manually by creating a database, uploading WordPress files and running the setup screen.
Step 3: Basic configuration
- Set permalinks to a clean structure such as post name
- Delete unused themes and plugins
- Set the correct site URL with HTTPS
Step 4: Secure it
- Use a unique admin username and strong password
- Enable two-factor authentication
- Keep core, themes and plugins updated
- Install only plugins you trust
Step 5: Backups and performance
Schedule automatic backups, store a copy off the server, and add a caching solution suited to your host.
